Hemhorroids and Hemhorroidal Embolization

Hemorrhoids:

Hemorrhoids, also known as Piles, are the inflammation of the veins or blood vessels in and around the anus and lower rectum. They can cause bleeding and discomfort and/or pain, especially during bowel movements or while sitting.

Internal Hemorrhoids are located inside of the rectum, are harder to treat and can be painless, but often bleed.

Internal Hemorrhoid Symptoms

  • Migration of Hemorrhoid through the Anus

  • This migration (falling) can cause stool leakage

  • Pain and Swelling near the anus

Hemorrhoids typically present in male and female adults of all ages and can be diagnosed from a medical provider physical exam and/or with a colonoscopy. Treatment options are based on location and severity of the Hemorrhoids.

Treatments

•Medication

•Sclerosis  Injection

•Radiofrequency ablation

•Rubber Band Ligation

•Hemorrhoidal Artery Embolization

•Surgery

Hemorrhoidal Artery Embolization is a minimally invasive procedure that embolizes the blood vessels that feed the hemorrhoid. This procedure ultimately blocks the blood flow to the hemorrhoid and lessons or eliminates the discomfort and bleeding that comes from Hemorrhoids.

At Expert Vascular Care we perform Hemorrhoid Artery Embolization (HAE) right in our Vascular Center. During the HAE procedure, the Radiologist or Surgeon use x-ray to guide a catheter through the wrist or groin into the arterial system to the superior rectal artery.  Once reached, the Physician finds the last branches of the arteries and deploys coils, to block the flow of blood to the Hemorrhoid This procedure takes about an hour and the patient can return to work, the following day.
